Who We Serve

Gateway works with people at risk of exploitation and those who have experienced it. We serve through both prevention and restoration—addressing vulnerabilities before exploitation occurs and providing holistic care when it does. Through every stage, we seek to create pathways toward safety, stability, and a healthier future.

Single Moms + Families

We support mothers and families who have faced significant challenges and adversity in their lives. Many of these mothers carry the responsibility of caring for their families on their own, often balancing work, parenting, and other difficult circumstances. Despite the challenges they face, they continue to work toward creating a safe, stable, and brighter future for themselves and their children.

Transitioning Peoples

We support people who have faced difficult and often unjust circumstances in their lives. Despite the obstacles they have encountered, they continue to show resilience and determination as they work to rebuild their lives, find stability, and move toward greater well-being and a brighter future.

Young Adults

We support young adults who are not currently enrolled in school as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of adulthood. Through practical life skills, guidance, and a strong sense of community, we help them build confidence, develop healthy independence, and take meaningful steps toward their future.

K’s Story

Ten years ago, K faced a devastating loss as her husband passed away, leaving her to navigate the challenges of single parenthood with five young children. At the time, financial difficulties loomed large, and she was in need of support.

K's life has transformed through the Gateway Program over the past five years. The program provided vital support - from childcare to job assistance and a safe home. Initially burdened by shyness and grief, K was able to find warmth in the Gateway community, offering her a sense of belonging and fresh opportunities.

K found unwavering strength in God's love at Gateway, aiding her healing and revealing inner resilience. Despite her grief, she faced life head-on, propelled by faith.

K envisions a future where she and her children stand independently as they grow. With the unwavering support of Gateway, her steadfast faith paves the way for a brighter tomorrow. K's story showcases the caring community and steadfast resilience that she walked through life with and will continue to as her family is strengthened.

G’s Story

G had to begin working at the age of 11 after her father passed away, leaving her mother to care for four children as a single parent. Because she was so young, working in a karaoke establishment eventually led to her being placed in residential care.

At 16, G was given an opportunity to begin vocational training at Bella Goose Coffee - one of our strategic partnerships - and later joined the Gateway Foundation’s program. One of her greatest challenges was not having Thai citizenship, which made education and employment difficult. After five years of persistence and support, G finally received a hill-tribe person identification card, giving her hope for Thai citizenship in the future.

Today, G works as a social work assistant at a non-profit while studying Social Work at university. She is now in her third year and is working toward becoming a professional social worker.

G’s journey reminds us that with perseverance, support, and hope, a difficult beginning can become a meaningful future. We believe G will one day use her own experience to help and bring hope to many others.

K’s Story

K grew up in a hill-tribe community just south of Chiang Mai. After graduating from high school, she came to Chiang Mai looking for work and found a job at a cafe. K had never lived away from her village community. Being in Chiang Mai alone had presented many difficulties for a young woman - through a recommendation from a co-worker K was connected to Gateway.

Through initial conversations, it was deemed necessary for K to move into the Gateway House. Living at Gateway has helped K grow in many ways. Through weekly fellowship activities, she has grown closer to her community, improved her English, and received guidance from the staff on values, ethics, and life skills.

Today, K works as a barista at a hotel. She earns enough to support herself and is becoming increasingly independent. Through her time at Gateway she was able to gain the skills - personal and professional - to be able to hold a job of this standard.

Looking ahead, K’s dream is to start her own business. We are grateful to see her growing in confidence, faith, and independence as she takes steps toward a brighter future.
